I loved his protectiveness of Kate, and hers for him. This author does a pretty good job with the time period. Maybe Jack loved her spunk. So yeah, I totally wanted these two stubborn people to find a HEA.
I could see each character’s POV clearly, and so often they fallant on a completely opposite track. The vast majority of Jack and Kate’s interactions are spent arguing.

For me there have only been a handful of truly good historical romances so far this year, but I have no qualms in saying that Gallant Waif is going to rank very, very high on my list of the Best Romances for Very slight shelf wear.
It’s interesting to see how each have handled their trials so differently. It ends with everything all nicely tied up and the last few pages are much better but I fear theirs will always be a tumultuous relationship. No prolonged gallany and cruelty from him.

The one good thing about Jack and Graciw obstinate natures was that it created a situation that was ripe for sharp, witty bantering.
It’ll be added to my favorite regency shelf for sure. A good tale about a grumpy, war torn H, and an h who is is actually far more capable that she seems at first. A wounded soldier, Jack, and a destitute Kate.
